Manuel Zelaya qualifies Pact for eventual restitution of triumph for democracy

Honduras, Tegucigalpa EFE).-deposed President Manuel Zelaya, called on Thursday the agreement reached with the Government de facto to let Congress decide on its eventual restitution in power as "triumph for Honduran democracy".


"The fact that it is already recognise the need to take back the powers of the State to 28 June 2009 means a victory for Honduran democracy and (...) the return of peace to the country," said statements radio globe.

Also means "the possibility that the elections in Honduras confirm we can perform them equal competition and freedom," he added.

Zelaya, which called "viacrucis" the road to this Pact, considered the Convention as "historic" and appealed for calm to the population.

"I call the entire population, without differentiation of any of the ideologies that currently are in effect, take the agreement with satisfaction and calmly and tomorrow hopefully your final signature", indicated the radio station, one of the few means that has given its support.

"We tell the Honduran people that we look beyond all types of celebrations, these agreements as a symbol of peace for our country and restore our democracy", held.

The deposed representative stressed that the United States Mission headed by the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Thomas Shannon, arrived on Wednesday in the country, "has played a role essential, key, like the Organization of American States (OAS), the European Union, all the countries of America".

Had vowed, also, to make this agreement "a guarantee to make sense of democratic disruption they mean Governments de facto experiences not back them again" in Honduras.
